Shiv Sena (UBT) leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut on Tuesday sparked controversy with a sharp remark targeting rebel Trinamool Congress (TMC) leaders amid the deepening crisis within the Mamata Banerjee-led
party.
Resharing a video of senior TMC leader and Lok Sabha MP Kirti Azad attacking the rebel camp on X, the Shiv Sena leader suggested that the rebels, whom he described as “traitors,” be “thrashed with shoes right on the street.”

TMC Crisis Deepens
Raut’s post came as the TMC faces one of its biggest internal revolts in recent years. A group of “nearly 20” TMC Lok Sabha MPs, led by Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, has informed Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla of its decision to align with the BJP-led NDA and sever ties with the TMC parliamentary party.
Kirti Azad Lashes Out At Rebels
In the video shared by Raut, Kirti Azad described the rebel leaders as “traitors” and questioned why they chose to raise grievances only after elections. Addressing a press conference in New Delhi alongside fellow TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee, Azad said, “Our 29 leaders won in the name of ‘Maa, Maati and Maanush’ and became MPs. I want to know from these traitors – why did you speak about your difficulties after the election, why not before it?”
Azad also urged the rebels to resign and seek a fresh mandate on a BJP ticket, while praising former TMC Rajya Sabha MP Sukhendu Sekhar Roy for resigning before criticising the party.
The rebellion follows an earlier revolt within the TMC’s legislative wing after the Bengal Assembly election setback. The latest developments have intensified pressure on the party leadership as a section of MPs and MLAs openly challenge the Mamata Banerjee camp.
