A chilling video has surfaced from the scene of Monday’s deadly car explosion near Delhi’s Red Fort, capturing the moment panic gripped the crowded area seconds after the blast.
The video was filmed by
a local vlogger, identified as Deepak, who was recording content for his YouTube channel when the explosion occurred.
Though the blast itself is not visible in the footage, a loud bang is heard in the background, immediately followed by scenes of confusion.
The video shows people turning in shock, some screaming, and others running for cover as chaos spreads through the area, and debris can be seen flying around.
The explosion, which took place at a busy traffic signal near a metro station opposite the historic Red Fort, killed 12 people and injured 24.
Several vehicles were damaged by the impact.
Delhi Police have registered an FIR under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and the Explosives Act, and multiple teams, including forensic experts, are investigating the cause of the blast.
Officials said all angles, including the possibility of a terror attack, are being examined.
Meanwhile, security measures across the national capital and in neighbouring states were heightened. Raids were being conducted at multiple locations in the national capital as preliminary findings suggested a link to the terror module uncovered in Faridabad.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired a high-level security review meeting in the wake of the blast. The meeting was attended by Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, Director, Intelligence Bureau, Tapan Deka, Delhi Police Commissioner Satish Golcha and DG, NIA, Sadanand Vasant Date.
DGP of Jammu and Kashmir Nalin Prabhat also attended the meeting virtually.
Preliminary findings by police suggested ammonium nitrate, fuel oil and detonators may have been used in the blast near the Red Fort.
