A protests in Iran entered its third week, US President Donald Trump warned of “very strong action” if Tehran moves ahead with executions amid nationwide protests against the Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali
Khamenei government. As demonstrations continue to spread across Iranian cities, Trump has said that “help is on its way” and urged Iranians to keep protesting, comments that have sharply intensified international focus on the crisis.
Iran is now facing one of the deadliest crackdowns in its recent history. Reports indicate that more than 2,000 people have been killed since the protests erupted, with thousands more injured or arrested. Public anger has been fuelled by years of economic hardship, political repression and denial of basic rights, leading to sustained demonstrations despite the heavy security presence.
Fears are growing that Iranian authorities may carry out the first execution linked to the protests. The case of 26-year-old Erfan Soltani, who is reportedly scheduled to be hanged, has drawn widespread alarm from human rights groups and foreign governments. His possible execution has become a stark warning of how far the authorities may go to silence dissent.
As per reports, Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA) said that at least 2,403 protesters have been killed since the anti-government demonstrations began in December.
