Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar’s theatrical release was banned in Pakistan. While the movie did amazing numbers at the box office, the Aditya Dhar directorial did lose market presence following the ban. Now,
it looks like the people of the country are not in sync with the idea of this ban, as Dhurandhar is now available on Netflix. Following its OTT release, the film is receiving love in Pakistan.
Despite a proper ban on the film’s theatrical release, Dhurandhar is trending at number 1 on Netflix in Pakistan within days of its release, as viewers there try to understand why the film is so ‘controversial’. A screenshot of Dhurandhar trending at #1 in films on Netflix Pakistan has made its way to social media, and HT also confirmed that the news is true, with the film trending at #1 in Pakistan since at least Saturday.
Following Dhurandhar’s OTT release in Pakistan, the audience is hailing the Aditya Dhar directorial. One wrote, “I’m Pakistani and I love Dhurandhar. Y’all gotta stop creating this narrative that we hate you guys and vice versa. It’s all love from my side. Don’t be rude.”
“As a Pakistani, it’s the best Bollywood movie I have ever watched. First time I saw a film where actual research has been done and there’s no use of ‘adaab,’ ‘janaab,’ surma, kajal, topi, and vest to show Pakistanis,” another comment read.
“The movie actually portrayed Pakistan well (the weapon gangs and politics) and sprinkled opinion politics on India,” a user wrote.
About Dhurandhar’s OTT release
Ranveer Singh’s high-octane actioner made its much-awaited OTT debut on January 30, and viewers rushed in. In India, just like Pakistan, the film is now sitting comfortably at the No. 1 spot on Netflix’s trending list.
As for edits, the film’s runtime remains largely unchanged. The only alteration continues to be the removal of Sanjay Dutt’s character SP Aslam’s Balochi dialogue, which had earlier sparked strong objections from a community and led to a legal complaint. That scene was previously removed from theatrical prints as well, and no additional cuts have been introduced on Netflix.
About Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar
Directed by Aditya Dhar, Dhurandhar stars Ranveer Singh in the lead, alongside Akshaye Khanna, Sara Arjun, Sanjay Dutt, R. Madhavan, Arjun Rampal, and others. The story follows an Indian spy who enters Pakistan on a covert mission and finds himself deep inside the dangerous world of the Lyari mafia. The film is inspired by real events.
Meanwhile, work on Dhurandhar 2 is already underway, with the sequel scheduled for a theatrical release on March 19. Recent behind-the-scenes visuals from the Mumbai sets, showing characters played by Arjun Rampal and Sanjay Dutt locked in an intense exchange, have fuelled speculation about the next chapter. Reports suggest the sequel will dive into Hamza Mazhari’s revenge arc and finally reveal the identity of the mysterious ‘Bade Sahab’, a character many believe draws inspiration from gangster Dawood Ibrahim.
