Security forces have busted a terror hideout linked to Jaish-e-Mohammed in the Singhpora area of Kishtwar district, officials said on Monday. This comes only a day after an encounter broke out in a remote
forested area in the upper reaches of Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district.
The encounter broke out during a joint cordon and search operation in Sonnar village, near Mandral-Singhoora in the Chatroo belt, around Sunday noon, officials said.
In a post on X, the Army’s Jammu-based White Knight Corps termed the action “Operation Trashi-I” and said security forces came in contact with terrorists in the general area of Sonnar, northeast of Chatroo, while carrying out a deliberate search operation as part of ongoing joint counter-terror exercises with the Jammu and Kashmir Police.
An Army Special Forces Havildar lost his life and eight other soldiers were injured during an encounter with terrorists in the Chatroo area of Kishtwar district in Jammu and Kashmir. The exchange of fire continued for several hours before subsiding.
According to the officials cited by IANS, most of the eight injured soldiers suffered splinter wounds caused by a grenade blast.
They added that after a pause through the night, joint security forces restarted the search operation to trace the terrorists believed to be hiding in the higher reaches of the area.
The operation had been called off late the previous evening due to difficult terrain, with dense forest cover and steep slopes hampering visibility and movement.
Security agencies believe that a group of two to three terrorists, allegedly linked to the Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), remains trapped in the area.
