Bollywood has seen many stars rise and fade, but Sanjay Kapoor’s journey stands out for how promise repeatedly slipped through his fingers. Despite playing heroes, villains, and everything in between,
lasting success never truly came his way.
Even during his early years as a leading man, Sanjay Kapoor struggled to deliver the kind of impact that could anchor his career. Film after film was released, but none turned him into the star many expected him to become.
The Villain Turn That Failed To Rescue His Career
Hope briefly returned in 2002 when Sanjay Kapoor took on a negative role in Koi Mere Dil Se Poochhe, produced by his brother Boney Kapoor. The film featured Aftab Shivdasani, Jaya Bachchan, and marked the debut of Esha Deol. Many believed this darker turn would reinvent him.
Instead, the film flopped at the box office. Even 25 years later, it is remembered more for its cast than for reviving Sanjay Kapoor’s fading career.
Working With Stars, Missing The Stardom
Ironically, Sanjay Kapoor shared screen space with several actresses who later became box-office favourites. He debuted opposite Tabu and went on to star with Madhuri Dixit in Raja, an action-romantic drama directed by Indra Kumar.
Raja was a commercial hit, and working with Madhuri Dixit was expected to change his fortunes. But while the film succeeded, Sanjay Kapoor’s career trajectory remained stubbornly unchanged. Big offers continued to pass him by.
From Leading Man To Supporting Roles
As years passed, Sanjay Kapoor gradually moved away from lead roles. Today, he appears mostly in smaller, supporting parts, and even those come infrequently. In recent times, he has turned to OTT platforms, taking on secondary roles in web series in an effort to stay connected to the entertainment industry.
Despite decades in Bollywood and collaborations with some of its biggest names, Sanjay Kapoor’s career remains a story of missed chances, a reminder that in cinema, talent and opportunity don’t always guarantee stardom.
