Amid the ongoing debate regarding the Women’s Reservation Bill, actress and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut has come out in its support. On Thursday, the Emergency actress delivered a fierce speech in the parliament
when she cited a famous dialogue from Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol’s Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge and argued that the current union government is working for the betterment of women in society.
“We have a very popular Bollywood film called Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge. There is a famous dialogue in the film, ‘Ja Simran, jee le apni zindegi’. Today, our government has told us that all the cages are broken, all the walls have been pulled down, ‘jao betiyo, jee lo apni zindegi’,” Kangana said, as quoted by Times Now.
She then attacked Congress’ Sonia Gandhi and added, “Sonia Gandhi says why are they (BJP) in a hurry to bring the bill. Should we be like you and let it hang for 30 years?”
Kangana Ranaut also praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi and called him the strongest advocate for women’s rights in the government. “What didn’t happen in 60 years, he achieved in 10 – be it pucca houses, providing gas cylinders, or inducting women into defence forces. One thing is certain: he is in a hurry to give justice to women. He is the flagbearer of feminism,” she said.
Kangana Ranaut is not the first one from the showbiz world to back the Women’s Reservation Bill. Previously, actors like Lakshmi Manchu, Priyanka Chopra, Suniel Shetty, Riteish Deshmukh and Esha Gupta also appreciated the proposal.
Mohabbatein actress Preeti Jhangiani also shared her reaction to the Women’s Reservation Bill, calling it a civilizational movement for the country. “You know, I think the fact that this bill is finally being passed after 27 long years, I believe it was first introduced in 1996. So the fact that this bill is being passed is more than a political movement; it’s also a civilisational movement for India,” she told IANS.
