Pune News: Public sector oil marketing companies have stepped up their drive to ensure all domestic LPG consumers complete their Aadhaar-based e-KYC verification before August 16, 2026.
Consumers across
the country have been receiving SMS alerts on their registered mobile numbers, warning that failure to complete the mandatory verification could affect their ability to book LPG cylinders at notified domestic rates.
The exercise aims to eliminate fake and duplicate LPG connections while ensuring that government subsidies reach only genuine domestic consumers.
What Happens If You Miss The Deadline?
Oil companies have warned that consumers who fail to complete their e-KYC by the deadline may face difficulties in booking LPG cylinders at subsidised domestic rates.
Instead, they could be required to purchase cylinders at commercial prices until the verification process is completed. Beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) may also experience disruptions in receiving LPG subsidies if they do not complete the Aadhaar verification on time.
Millions Yet To Complete Verification
The e-KYC drive has seen a slow response in several parts of the country.
In Pune district alone, nearly 4.80 lakh of around 6 lakh domestic LPG consumers, about 80%, are yet to complete the mandatory verification process, as reported by Pune Mirror.
Officials said around 1.25 lakh consumers recently completed their registrations after a temporary disruption in gas supply prompted concern. However, the pace of verification slowed once regular cylinder supply resumed.
Arun Mishra, President of the Gas Distributors’ Association, said distributors have launched an awareness campaign through phone calls, SMS alerts and door-to-door visits, urging consumers not to wait until the last minute.
How To Complete LPG e-KYC?
Consumers can complete the Aadhaar-based verification through multiple channels:
- Indian Oil One App (for Indian Oil customers)
- Their respective LPG company’s official mobile app or portal
- Their local LPG distributor or gas agency
- Through the LPG delivery executive during cylinder delivery
Customers will need their Aadhaar card, registered mobile number, and other identity details to complete the verification.
SMS Alert Sent To Consumers
Oil companies have been sending repeated reminders to customers who have not yet completed the process.
One such message reads: “Dear customer, to get LPG cylinders at domestic rates, you must complete e-KYC. Despite repeated reminders, you have not yet completed e-KYC.”
Indian Oil has also informed consumers that those who do not complete e-KYC by August 16, 2026, will not be eligible to receive LPG cylinders at domestic rates until the verification is completed.
PM Ujjwala Beneficiaries Also Covered
The mandatory verification also applies to beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY).
Launched in 2016, the scheme has more than 10 crore beneficiaries across India and currently provides a Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) of Rs 300 per cylinder for up to four LPG refills under the prevailing subsidy scheme.
Officials have advised PMUY beneficiaries to complete their e-KYC before the deadline to avoid any interruption in subsidy payments.
Why Is e-KYC Being Made Mandatory?
According to officials, the verification drive is intended to strengthen the LPG distribution system by linking every active connection to a genuine consumer. The exercise is expected to curb duplicate or fraudulent connections and ensure government subsidies are provided only to eligible beneficiaries.
Authorities have urged consumers to complete the verification well before August 16 to avoid last-minute rush and any disruption in LPG bookings or subsidy benefits.
