Directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, Rang De Basanti is indeed one of the most influential films in Indian cinema, which redefined the landscape of filmmaking and socially driven storytelling. Featuring
Aamir Khan, R Madhavan, Siddharth Suryanarayan, Soha Ali Khan, Sharman Joshi, Kunal Kapoor, Anupam Kher and Atul Kulkarni in pivotal roles, the film went on to become a nationwide phenomenon, sparking conversations and resonating deeply with audiences through its powerful narrative and fearless voice.
Recently, the film completed 20 years of its theatrical journey and to mark the milestone, the makers are set to organise a special screening of the film for its cast and crew. The screening will be held on January 30 in Mumbai and will be attended by Director Raykesh Omprakash Mehra, Aamir Khan and Siddharth Suryanarayan. Soha Ali Khan, Kunal Kapoor and Atul Kulkarni will also be reuniting with the team.
For the unversed, Rang De Basanti follows a group of carefree youngsters whose lives change while working on a documentary about freedom fighters. As they step into the shoes of revolutionaries, they awaken to corruption and injustice, prompting them to take a powerful stand that reshapes their lives.
The film was honoured with a National Film Award for Best Popular Film and was also nominated for Best Foreign Language Film at the 2007 BAFTA Awards. Additionally, the film was also chosen as India’s official entry for the Golden Globe Awards and Academy Awards in the Best Foreign Language Film category.
Recently, Sharman Joshi talked about the 20 years of his film and said, “Rang De Basanti is a memorable film, a cult film and a film that Hindi cinema will remember forever. I was fortunate and blessed enough to be a part of a rare cinema that continues to touch people from across generations.”
