“Jahan huye balidaan Mookherjee, woh Kashmir humara hai”.
For decades, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has spearheaded its movement againstArticle 370 in Jammu and Kashmir with this very slogan, advancing
its longstanding demand to integrate Jammu and Kashmir into the national framework.
Recalling the iconic slogan that dominated its campaign in Kashmir, the BJP on Wednesday released a video shedding light on the “journey of Article 370” and marking the seventh anniversary of its abrogation. The BJP asserted that the abrogation of Article 370 ushered in a transformative chapter for Jammu and Kashmir.
Article 370 granted special status and internal autonomy to the state of Jammu and Kashmir. The Central Government –– led by the BJP –– revoked these provisions on August 5, 2019, fully integrating the region into the national framework.
In a post on ‘X’, the BJP wrote: “Impossible? Then the history itself gave an answer. From unfurling the Tricolour at Srinagar’s Lal Chowk in 1992 despite grave threats, to the historic abrogation of Article 370 and 35A on 5 August 2019, this is the story of conviction, courage and a promise fulfilled by PM Shri Narendra Modi.”

The post also featured a video that sought to reflect on the journey of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir. According to the BJP, the clip summed up a detailed journey of the Union Territory that was guided by the spirit of “Na dainyam, na palayanam”, which translates to, “Neither begging for mercy, nor running away”
“This video chronicles a decades-long journey guided by the spirit of “Na dainyam, na palayanam” — transforming what once seemed impossible into one of the most significant constitutional decisions in independent India’s history”.
The clip begins with the host reading a chilling 1992 warning written on a wall in Sringar allegedly by extremist groups. “Maa ka doodh piya hai toh Lal Chowk aake dikhao (If you’ve the guts, come to the Lal Chowk).”
The host said that such warnings reflected on many walls across Srinagar, the capital of Kashmir. “On January 26, 1992, Modi (PM Narendra Modi) unfurled the tricolour at Srinagar’s Lal Chowk and proudly raised the slogan, ‘Jahan huye balidaan Mookherjee, woh Kashmir humara hai (Where Mookherjee laid his life, that Kashmir is ours)'”.
Dr Shyama Prasad Mookherjee was the founder of the Jana Sangh –– now the Bharatiya Janata Party. He emerged as one of the earliest and most prominent voices against Article 370. He strongly opposed granting Jammu and Kashmir a separate Constitution and flag, arguing that such provisions undermined the principle of national unity and integration.
