Passengers from Kerala’s Malabar region will soon find it easier to travel to Bengaluru after the Bengaluru–Kannur Express was extended to Kozhikode. The move ends years of travel inconvenience for people
who had long been requesting better rail connectivity between northern Kerala and Karnataka’s capital.
The train, numbered 16511/16512, previously operated between Bengaluru and Kannur. With the latest change, the service will now run up to Kozhikode, giving travellers from the Malabar region a more direct and convenient travel option.
For many years, passengers from northern Kerala have depended heavily on rail transport to reach Bengaluru for work, education and business. However, limited direct connectivity meant travellers often had to make additional arrangements or travel longer distances to access suitable trains. The extension of the Bengaluru–Kannur Express to Kozhikode is expected to ease these difficulties.
One of the key advantages of the service is its overnight schedule, which is particularly helpful for students and working professionals who frequently travel between the two regions. The timing allows passengers to begin their journey in the evening and reach their destination the next day, making the trip more practical and less tiring.
With the revised timetable, the Bengaluru–Kozhikode Express (Train No. 16511) will arrive in Kozhikode at 12:40 pm. This schedule allows passengers to travel overnight and reach the city during the daytime, which can be more convenient for continuing onward travel or beginning the day’s activities.
The return service, the Kozhikode–Bengaluru Express (Train No. 16512), will depart from Kozhikode at 3:00 pm and head back towards Bengaluru. This timing provides travellers with a clear and predictable schedule for return journeys as well.
The extension is expected to reduce travel pressure on passengers from northern Kerala who regularly commute to Bengaluru. The city remains a major destination for education, employment and business opportunities, drawing large numbers of travellers from the Malabar region throughout the year.
For students studying in Bengaluru, the extended service could make trips home more straightforward, especially during weekends and holidays. Similarly, professionals working in the city but originally from northern Kerala may now find it easier to travel between the two places without complicated travel plans.
The improved rail connection also supports business travellers who move between the two regions for work. Kozhikode is an important commercial centre in northern Kerala, and the direct train link can help strengthen travel convenience for people engaged in trade and related activities.
Rail connectivity plays a major role in linking Kerala with neighbouring states, and any expansion of routes often has a noticeable impact on daily commuters and long-distance passengers alike. The extension of the Bengaluru–Kannur Express is therefore expected to benefit a wide range of travellers who rely on railways for regular journeys.
For residents of the Malabar region, the development represents a long-awaited improvement in connectivity. With the train now reaching Kozhikode, passengers can access a more convenient and direct travel option to Bengaluru, reducing the need for additional travel arrangements.
As the service begins operating under the revised schedule, many travellers in northern Kerala are likely to see it as a practical solution to a long-standing travel challenge. The extended route promises to make journeys between Kozhikode and Bengaluru smoother for students, professionals and other passengers who frequently move between the two regions.
