It is not a secret that Aamir Khan and Rajkumar Hirani, who previously worked on PK and 3 Idiots, are reuniting for yet another film – this time for a biopic on Dadasaheb Phalke, the man known as the father
of Indian cinema. While the project has been in the plans for a long time now, it has now been reported that Aamir is likely to begin the film’s shoot in March this year.
If a report by Mid-Day is to be believed, Hirani is currently developing a fresh draft of the script. Reportedly, this is being done to align both Hirani and Khan’s creative vision and to make sure the film does justice to Dadasaheb Phalke. The insider revealed that a draft of the script is likely to be finalised by February, following which, Aamir will begin shooting in March 2026.
“Hirani and Aamir agree that the film must feel emotionally contemporary while staying rooted in history. The rewrite is to fine-tune the balance of humour and sincerity. They want to ensure that the character arc captures Phalke’s stature. The draft will likely be finalised by February, and production will begin in late March,” a source cited by the entertainment portal claimed.
The life of Dadasaheb Phalke is an important chapter in Indian film history. He made Raja Harishchandra, India’s first full-length feature film, back in 1913. Telling his story on the big screen will be a big moment for Indian cinema.
According to reports, the team is leaving no stone unturned to ensure authenticity. FX studios in Los Angeles have already created AI-powered visual references to help recreate the time period of the story. Interestingly, the script has been in the works for over four years. It’s being shaped by a talented writing team, including Rajkumar Hirani himself, along with Abhijat Joshi, Hindukush Bharadwaj, and Avishkar Bharadwaj.
