Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday addressed the Parliament on the West Asia war. He said conflict in the Strait of Hormuz region is affecting crude oil, gas and fertilizer supplies, adding that the government
is focused on reducing difficulties faced by people.
PM Modi said India now imports energy from 41 countries to diversify supply amid global uncertainty.
He noted that around 60 per cent of the country’s LPG is imported. The Prime Minister added that the government is closely monitoring shipping routes in view of the situation in the Hormuz region.
The Prime Minister said several Indian ships that were stranded in the Strait of Hormuz have now arrived. He also noted that India currently has 53 lakh metric tonnes of strategic fuel reserves.
Condemning attacks on tankers in the Strait of Hormuz, PM Modi said, “Attacks on commercial ships and disruptions in international waterways like the Hormuz Strait are unacceptable. Through diplomacy, India is continuously making efforts for the safe passage of Indian ships, even in this atmosphere of war…”
PM Modi said ethanol blending in petrol has reached 20 per cent. He added that authorities are closely monitoring shipping routes in view of the situation in the Hormuz region.
He said security has been strengthened across coastal areas, border regions, cyber networks and strategic installations.
PM Modi said dialogue and diplomacy remain the only way to resolve the West Asia conflict. He also stressed the need to be prepared for long-term impact as the situation continues.
