Former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh has said that while Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli look committed to play the 2027 World Cup, the decision over their future lies not just with them but also with the selectors,
adding that the famed duo deserve clarity over the management’s plans.
Yuvraj stressed that uncertainty at this stage of Rohit and Kohli’s careers is unfair, underlining the need for clear planning as India build towards the next global event.
With both Rohit and Kohli stepping away from Tests and T20Is to focus on ODIs, their roles remain central to India’s plans, even as they form part of a broader transition phase.
Speaking to Sports Tak, Yuvraj stressed the need for honest communication between head coach Gautam Gambhir, the selectors and Rohit-Kohli.
“I don’t know what is going on in their minds. They look committed to playing the World Cup, but I think that decision lies with them and the selectors, who will have to decide the future,” Yuvraj said.
“My point is that they are such great players, there has to be clarity. You should be able to sit in a room and discuss things openly. It is difficult, especially at that stage of your career,” Yuvraj added.
“You may not like hearing that the team is looking ahead, but a year later, you will appreciate that at least someone told you the truth to your face. That does not really happen in Indian cricket,” Yuvraj said.
Meanwhile, both Rohit and Kohli have underlined their importance to India’s ODI setup. The latter, in particular, has enjoyed a resurgence since late 2025, climbing back to the top of the ICC rankings with a more aggressive approach, highlighted by a prolific series against South Africa where he piled up 302 runs in three games at a staggering average of 151.
