Sportswear giant Adidas has reportedly laid off nearly half of its employees at its Gurugram technology hub, according to some reports.
The Gurugram tech hub, launched in 2021 with the aim of attracting
and developing top technology and engineering talent to work on Adidas products, had around 700 employees.
Adidas has confirmed the workforce reduction, describing it as a “difficult decision” aimed at streamlining its processes and aligning its technology organisation with the changing needs of the business.
“As part of our ongoing efforts to align our operating model with the evolving needs of the business, we have made the difficult decision to reduce a number of roles within our Technology organization in India,” Adidas said in a statement.
“These changes are intended to simplify parts of our organization, strengthen critical capabilities, and position adidas for long-term success in a rapidly evolving business and technology environment,” the company added.
Adidas said it was “deeply grateful” to employees for their contributions and would support those affected by the layoffs with “care, respect, and appropriate transition assistance”.
According to reports, the affected employees have been divided into two groups. Some received their exit letters on September 15, while the second group is expected to remain with the company until December 15 to complete knowledge transfers and hand over their responsibilities.

Adidas’ layoffs come amid a broader wave of job cuts in the technology sector, with Oracle also reportedly beginning a fresh round of layoffs as part of a wider restructuring. Affected employees were reportedly informed on September 14 that their roles were being eliminated.
The number of employees impacted globally in Oracle’s latest round of job cuts has not been disclosed. Industry watchers, however, fear India could be hit hard by Oracle’s latest round of layoffs, with some media reports pegging the impact in thousands.
Oracle’s India operations may have laid off around 2,000 to 2,500 employees in the latest round, The New Indian Express reported, citing former employees.
