Morning shows cancelled at the last minute
Karuppu, directed by RJ Balaji, was originally set for a grand opening with special early morning screenings after receiving permission from the Tamil Nadu government. However, several theatres reportedly removed the film’s 9 AM shows shortly before release. The sudden cancellations left many moviegoers frustrated as theatres struggled to provide clarity about the situation.
Producer Council addresses piracy concerns
While speaking to the press, producer S. R. Prabhu and members of the Producer Council explained that the situation was linked to a “mistaken screening of the film in North India due to goof up of service providers and are now worried about piracy.”
Fans react after release disruption
Social media platforms quickly filled with memes, emotional reactions, and angry posts from disappointed fans. Some users wrote that they had waited months to experience Karuppu on the big screen and were shocked to learn that the shows had disappeared from theatre listings at the last minute. Karuppu features Suriya in a dual-shaded role connected to justice and the folk deity Karuppasamy. The film also marks Trisha Krishnan’s reunion with Suriya after several years.
The supporting cast includes Yogi Babu, Natty Subramaniam, Swasika, and RJ Balaji.
