The LPG shortage has taken over several Indian cities due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. Amid the crisis, popular MTV anchor and DJ Nikhil Chinapa recently shared an unusual suggestion, which
caught the attention of the social media users.
Chinapa suggested that the crisis could turn into an opportunity for content creators who can help people find alternative ways to cook without using LPG cylinders.
Nikhil Chinapa Suggests ‘Microwave Cooking’ Content
Sharing his thoughts on X (formerly Twitter), Chinapa wrote, “If you are a content creator, and you can teach people how to cook food using a microwave, in India… Your YouTube channel is going to blow up in the next two weeks.”

Internet Joins In
Soon after Chinapa shared the remark, several users responded with their own suggestions about alternative cooking appliances.
One user commented, “Good insight, but first microwave sales will go up.”
Another said, “100% true! Whoever rides the way will get a huge advantage! Even usage of induction, I feel this will be even bigger than the microwave.”
“Go for air fryer! That would be more hit,” someone else suggested, while a person added, “And Air Fryers, Induction Tops, and all other electrical cooking appliances.”
Meanwhile, an individual shared a personal experience, writing, “People are just catching up to what I have always been doing lol: in the last 2-3 years, I have never used LPG gas cylinders for cooking. All of my cooking was done on induction and now air fryer LOL. The primary reason was I found the LPGs very dangerous and full of hassle; second, I only cook for myself and it’s just easy. The LPG crisis due to this Iran-US war doesn’t affect me.”
Why Is There A Shortage Of LPG?
The fun suggestion from Chinapa comes at a time when disruptions linked to the conflict in West Asia have begun affecting global energy supply chains. India imports a large share of its cooking gas, which makes domestic supply vulnerable to global developments.
Recent disruptions in shipping routes and rising energy prices have led to shortages of LPG cylinders in several cities. The situation has begun affecting restaurants in some areas which has forced them to reduce menu options.
Measures Taken By The Government
The government has invoked the Essential Commodities Act to prioritise LPG distribution for households, hospitals and other essential services. In some areas, commercial distribution has been restricted as part of these measures.
Officials have also extended the domestic cylinder booking period from 21 days to 25 days. At the same time, refineries have been directed to increase LPG production in an effort to stabilise the supply and ease pressure on the market.
