The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) has opened admissions for the second batch of its Online Postgraduate Diploma in Healthcare Product Development and Management. The programme is offered
by the Centre for Biomedical Engineering and focuses on training learners to develop and manage healthcare products.
The 12-month course covers areas such as biomedical innovation, regulatory processes, commercialisation and product management. It is aimed at professionals and aspirants working in biotechnology research, medical technology, healthcare entrepreneurship and regulatory roles. The course is designed to prepare participants for careers in biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, healthcare IT and digital health.
According to the institute, the programme will help students understand human anatomy and disease pathways for product design and provide practical knowledge of materials, mechatronics and research evaluation required in healthcare product development.
The announcement comes at a time when India’s healthcare sector is expanding rapidly. Estimates suggest the country needs about 2.4 million additional hospital beds and nearly 2 billion square feet of healthcare infrastructure. Reports also indicate the hospital sector could grow to USD 202.5 billion by 2030, supported by investment, government initiatives and adoption of technologies such as artificial intelligence and telemedicine.
Speaking about the programme, Prof. Arnab Chanda, Programme Coordinator, IIT Delhi, said, “India’s healthcare growth demands professionals who can build products with scientific depth and real-world viability. This diploma trains learners to move from unmet clinical needs to validate, compliant and commercially scalable solutions. We bring together engineering, clinical perspective and product strategy through rigorous coursework, practical projects and expert-led teaching, so participants can deliver innovations that stand up to regulatory and market expectations.”
Graduates, postgraduates and working professionals from engineering, life sciences and medical backgrounds can apply. Eligible candidates include those with BE, BTech, BCA, BIT, BSc in life sciences, MBBS, BDS, BPharm and related qualifications. Professionals from healthcare and biotech industries with engineering, MBA or MCA backgrounds are also eligible.

The programme includes more than 450 hours of learning, including live online classes, practical assignments and projects, along with a two-day campus immersion at IIT Delhi. The curriculum spans two semesters and eight modules covering topics such as biomaterials, biofabrication, biomedical research techniques, healthcare wearables and healthcare entrepreneurship.
Classes will be conducted online by IIT Delhi faculty and industry experts. Students will also work on simulations, case studies and hands-on projects. After completing the programme successfully, participants will receive affiliate alumni status from the institute.
