Mumbai’s Bellasis Flyover Ready: With the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) completing the construction, Mumbai residents will soon be able to travel via the Bellasis or Belasis Flyover. The flyover,
a key east-west connector in the city, was rebuilt in 15 months and six days after work began on October 1, 2024, four months ahead of the planned timeline, BMC officials said.
Once opened, Bellasis Flyover will cut travel time for thousands of daily south Mumbai commuters travelling to Tardeo, Mumbai Central and Nagpada.
The Bellasis Flyover
It spans the railway tracks near Mumbai Central and Grant Road and lies along Jahangir Boman Behram Marg, which was formerly known as Bellasis Road.
It connects major traffic zones — Tardeo (west), Nagpada (central), Mumbai Central area and beyond (east)
This makes it crucial for commuters needing to cross the railway lines without waiting at level crossings.
What work did BMC carry out?
The original structure, a British-era bridge which was almost 130 years old, was declared unsafe and demolished. The entire flyover was reconstructed from scratch with modern engineering standards.
It now has:
- Modern bridge structure suitable for heavy traffic.
- 7-meter wide carriageway for vehicles.
- Footpaths on both sides for pedestrians.
- Improved safety and structural stability.
What’s the project status?
- Structural works, safety certifications, and load tests have been done.
- Only official No Objection Certificate (NOC) clearance from Western Railway and traffic coordination with police remain before it’s formally opened to regular traffic.

Relocating traffic and services.
Demolishing and removing 13 structures that obstructed the project.
Coordination with Western Railway for work over active tracks.
How it will help
Once open to traffic, the Bellasis Flyover will restore east–west connectivity that had been disrupted for nearly two years.

- Jahangir Boman Behram Marg
- Dadasaheb Bhadkamkar Marg (Grant Road)
- Pathe Bapurao Marg
- Near the Mahalaxmi railway station bridge
The new flyover is anticipated to alleviate congestion on Jangir Boman Behram Marg and restore vital connectivity that had been disrupted for nearly two years.
