The Delhi government is expected to release the draft of its new electric vehicle (EV) policy in the first week of January, according to government sources. Amid the AQI spike and pollution, the government is focusing
towards EVs in every household.
In a bid to provide substantial relief to the middle class, the Delhi government is planning to offer significant subsidies on two-wheelers. The draft policy proposes a subsidy ranging between Rs 35,000 to Rs 40,000 for individuals who switch their two-wheelers from petrol to electric.
Moreover, the policy aims to extend substantial subsidies for the transition of commercial three-wheelers to electric vehicles. Additionally, individuals who currently spend up to Rs 20 lakh on petrol and diesel will also be eligible for subsidies if they switch to electric vehicles.
This initiative highlights the Delhi government’s commitment to promoting electric mobility and reducing the dependence on fossil fuels in the capital.
Delhi EV Policy Framework Ready: CM Rekha Gupta
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Saturday said the government has prepared a comprehensive framework for an electric vehicle (EV) policy. It is likely to be rolled out from the next financial year.
To reduce pollution levels and ease the adoption of EVs, the government is focusing on financial incentives, expanding charging infrastructure, and removing highly polluting vehicles from the roads, she said.
Addressing the issue of air pollution, the chief minister stated that vehicle emissions are a major contributor to PM2.5 and PM10 levels, and the adoption of EVs would directly reduce the pollutant load.
