Despite India’s steady rise as a global economic and tech powerhouse, safety remains a key concern for its urban population. In the latest mid-2025 Numbeo Safety Index, India ranked 67th worldwide with
a modest safety score of 55.8. Yet, when zoomed in on its cities, a few urban centres stand out for providing a greater sense of security to their residents. Mangalore, known for its clean streets and disciplined civic systems, has emerged as the safest city in India, securing the 49th spot globally.
Meanwhile, Gujarat shines on the safety map with three of its cities—Vadodara, Ahmedabad, and Surat—making it to the national top 10. On the other end of the spectrum, major NCR hubs like Delhi, Noida, and Ghaziabad continue to struggle with crime, ranking among the least safe cities in the country. Check the full list below.
