It’s only been a single business day since the teaser of Alia Bhatt’s upcoming movie Alpha dropped on YouTube, and it has already created plenty of buzz on the Internet. A product from the spy universe
of YRF that boasts of Ek Tha Tiger (2012), Tiger Zinda Hai (2017), War (2019), Pathaan (2023), Tiger 3 (2023), War 2 (2025) in its arsenal, Bhatt’s film promises an action-packed world showcasing a young woman turning into a lethal assassin.
Boasting Sharvari, Anil Kapoor, and Bobby Deol in pivotal roles, Alpha‘s 1-minute-and-55-second-long teaser has been viewed over 20 million times since it was uploaded on June 10. In fact, the first glimpse of Alpha is currently trending at #1 on YouTube in India.
But the numbers only tell half the story. It has not entirely been smooth sailing for the Aditya Chopra camp’s next release. Cinephiles have been quick to pick the teaser apart, pointing out several sequences that left them more puzzled than excited. For many long-time admirers of the YRF spy universe, Alpha felt like a downgrade.
Here are several complaints we came across while scrolling through X (formerly Twitter) and rummaging through the comments left on Alpha‘s teaser on YouTube:
‘Alpha’ Scene Copied From ‘La Femme Nikita’?
Alpha opened to Alia Bhatt sharing a meal with Bobby Deol on her 18th birthday when the mentor passes her a note informing her that it was time to turn her assassin training into action. The teaser then showed intense action set pieces with Bhatt showing off her agility as a deadly operative carefully sculpted by Deol.
Quite swiftly, social media users noticed something that stuck out to them. They stitched the Bhat-Deol’s meal scene from Alpha with 1990’s French classic La Femme Nikita and labelled it as “copied”. The viewers further highlighted the similarities between the storylines of both movies, featuring a young woman being recruited, trained, and transformed into a lethal assassin by a strong mentor figure.
Can YRF ever come up with something original?

Why Does A Secret Mission Assassin Have A Tattoo?
In the teaser, Deol tattoos “α” on a young Bhatt’s arm. Confused, she asks the mentor about the significance of the symbol left permanently on her skin. He goes on to explain about ‘Alpha,’ a secret program to prepare the next generation of soldiers in India.

Not very secretive, are they?
“Alpha movie of Alia Bhatt- You are a top secret agent, so let me tattoo your mission’s name on your body so that enemy knows immediately about you in case they capture you…. Yaar YRF, ye braindead Spyverse movies se tum bahut paise banaate ho, lekin aur kitne paise chahiyein, bas karo bhai (sic),” X user @whyteknight07 remarked.
Bobby Deol’s Haryanvi Accent
Folks went to town mocking Deol’s Haryanvi accent, which stuck out like a sore thumb to them. Could they have chosen a actor native to the Northern state? Wondered many.

The “hove” overdose.
Bollywood's Haryanvi is saying the entire sentence in Hindi but adding 'Hove' in the end. 🤣🤣 https://t.co/mryt75iu4I

Movie critic Anmol Jamwal of the Tried & Refused Productions YouTube Channel questioned Sharvari’s absence from the teaser and criticised the action choreography as “mid”.
“A big issue with the #Alpha teaser: besides the novelty of a ‘female special forces’ film, it does not stand out in any technical department. A presentation of mid action choreography on curated sets, with no specific high point with its BGM or even character traits. Where is Sharvari?” Anmol wrote on his X account.

YouTube Comments Section Becomes A Roasting Ground
As if the relentless criticism on X was not enough, thousands descended on the Alpha teaser’s YouTube comments section to make their feelings known to the makers.
“That restaurant conversation scene look like another alia make my trip ad (sic),” one YouTube comment read.
“me waiting for Bobby to say “mahri chhori choro se kam he ke” (sic),” commented another.
“I can’t stop laughing when Lord Bobby suddenly Starts speaking Haryanvi (sic).”
“Mission ki baatein khule aam restaurant mein ho rahi hai waah… spy universe ki dhajjiya uda di yrf ne.. (sic).”
Ranveer Singh’s highly popular character from Dhurandhar was also summoned.
“Ranveer singh be like – Alpha ka mustaqbil main pehle hi teh kar chuka hu (sic).”
“Major Iqbal be like: agar aise Spy bheje hote to aaj me Zinda hota (sic).”
Alpha is slated to release on July 3, 2026.
