New Delhi, May 7 (PTI) The Office of the Registrar General of India and the Directorate of Census Operations, Delhi, on Thursday launched a 15-day awareness campaign for the first phase of Census 2027,
deploying six mobile outreach vehicles across the national capital.
According to officials, the campaign, scheduled from May 7 to May 21, will cover 180 identified spots in areas under the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD). Interactive sessions will be held to explain to the public the first phase of the census, which involves listing every household and recording details of available amenities.
Visuals from the campaign show census awareness messages being shared with residents in English and Hindi, and these vehicles are branded with these messages.
“LED TVs, selfie points are installed on these vehicles. Jingles and Q&As will be conducted to spread awareness,” a senior official said.
According to officials, the 180 identified spots include popular tourist destinations and public places. “These vehicles will be parked near shopping malls, metro stations and areas with high footfall for maximum visibility,” an official said.
“In the first phase, every household and its facilities will be recorded,” an official said, drawing reference from informational material being circulated as part of the drive.
Officials emphasised that public cooperation is vital for the successful conduct of the census, which forms the backbone of India’s developmental planning.
The Census 2027 exercise will be conducted in two phases, with the first phase — house-listing and housing conditions — expected to be completed in all states and Union territories over the coming months. Regarding the second phase, including population enumeration, the drive is expected to start in February 2027. PTI VBH VBH MNK MNK
