As temperatures dip across many parts of the country, Telangana is set to witness a cold wave, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing an alert for 11 districts and forecasting a further
drop in temperatures in Hyderabad.
The IMD has issued an alert for Adilabad, Kumaram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Nirmal, Warangal, Hanamkonda, Jangaon, Siddipet, Sangareddy, Medak and Kamareddy.
According to the weather department, cold conditions are likely to persist across Telangana, with Hyderabad and nearby areas expected to witness chilly nights and cold early mornings.
For Hyderabad, the IMD has forecast fog or mist during the early morning hours. Temperatures are expected to remain below normal for the next two days. The minimum temperature is likely to stay 2°C to 3°C below average. Daytime temperatures may hover around 29°C, while night temperatures are expected to be around 12°C.
“Fog and misty conditions are very likely to prevail during morning hours. Mist or hazy conditions are very likely to prevail during morning or night hours. Minimum temperatures are likely to be below 3°C to 4°C during the next two days. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 29°C and 11°C respectively,” according to the bulletin.
Data released by the Telangana Development Planning Society (TGDPS) showed that 14 of the state’s 33 districts recorded minimum temperatures below 10°C between December 20 and 21.
Kohir reported the lowest temperature during this period, with the mercury plunging to 5.3°C, marking one of the coldest readings in the state this season.
Several other places across Telangana also witnessed a sharp drop in night temperatures. Moinabad recorded 6.9°C, Nawabpet 7°C, Tiryani 7.2°C and Bheempoor 7.6°C. Yeldurthy and Gandhari both registered 7.9°C. Saloora recorded 8.6°C, Akbarpet 8.9°C and Uppal 9.1°C. Pembi saw a minimum of 9.4°C, Narayanpet 9.5°C, Gandeed 9.8°C and Rudrangi 9.9°C.
The remaining 19 districts in the state reported minimum temperatures ranging between 10°C and 13°C, indicating relatively milder conditions elsewhere.
