Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra, starring Kalyani Priyadarshan, emerged as a massive success, and became the highest-grossing Malayalam film ever. Directed by Dominic Arun, the female-led superhero action film also
starred Naslen, Sandy, Chandu Salim Kumar and Arun Kurian, and was produced by Dulquer Salmaan for Wayfarer Films. In the first part, Dulquer used his father Mammootty’s voice for the role of Moothon. While the character’s face was never shown in the film, it was voiced by Mammootty. Now, in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, Mammootty jokingly stated that he was ‘cheated’ into joining the film. He also hinted at returning in the sequel and also joked about negotiating his fees.
Mammooty Opens Up On His Role In Lokah
In an interview with THR India, Mammootty spoke about lending his voice to the character Moothon in Lokah. “They didn’t tell me that I’m there. Initially, he (Dulquer) did not come. His manager, his friend, he asked me to give a voice. Vendam (No). That is the only thing I did. Even the hand used in the film is not mine. When the film came, they said, ‘It is you and your hand’,” said the Malayalam superstar.
He further laughed and added, “Now it has become my responsibility to act. Actually, they cheated me and did it. That’s the story behind it.”
Mammootty On Lokah Sequel
Earlier, Dulquer Salmaan revealed that it took effort to convince Mammootty to join Lokah, adding that getting him on board for the sequel would require similar persuasion, as convincing him isn’t easy. Reacting to this, Mammootty humorously replied, “If they manage to convince me to play Moothon in the Lokah series, I will also have to convince them to agree to my fees!”
Mammootty Confirmed As Part Of Lokah Universe
In September last year, on Mammootty’s 74th birthday, his son Dulquer Salmaan, the producer of ‘Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra’, shared a special poster of the film, confirming that the superstar indeed plays the mysterious role of ‘Moothon’ (The Elder) in this fantasy thriller. Lokah actress Kalyani Priyadarshan also confirmed the same, and wished ‘Moothon’ a happy birthday by sharing a behind-the-scenes picture with him from the sets.
Dulquer Salmaan and his production house Wayfarer Films shared a poster on Instagram that read, “Happy Birthday Moothon. You have our eternal love. -Team Lokah,” thereby confirming Mammootty’s involvement in Lokah.
The character of Moothon appeared only briefly in a fleeting cameo in Lokah, and had just a single dialogue. While the character’s face was never shown, only a hand and a voice were seen and heard on screen.
