External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during his one-day trip to Ukraine on Thursday, where he discussed India’s approach to ending the ongoing conflict.

visited Ukraine on Thursday after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s peace message to Russian President Vladimir Putin, saying India was prepared to help end the Russia-Ukraine war.
“I met with India’s Minister of External Affairs @DrSJaishankar. We discussed important issues. We are grateful to India for its commitment to ending this unjust war – Russia’s war against Ukraine. This certainly must not be a time of war. Peace is needed. This is India’s clear position,” Zelenskyy said in a social media post.
The Ukrainian President also alleged that Russia launched jet-powered ‘Shahed’ drones at Ukraine with Iran’s help during Jaishankar’s visit. However, most of the drones were shot down by Ukrainian fighter jets.
Speaking on shipping attacks, Zelenskyy said, “Of course, we discussed the situation in the Black Sea, including the existing threats to civilian shipping. We concur that it is absolutely unacceptable to block food supplies to regions where this is a highly sensitive issue and where people depend on these maritime routes.”

Zelenskyy accused Russia of blocking Kyiv’s ports and food corridor, which are causing a major disruption to global relations. He called on other countries to take a clear stance on the war and cooperate to guarantee security.
Jaishankar Raises Issue Of Indian Seafarers
During his visit to Ukraine, Jaishankar said India stands ready to help in any way to find an end to the longstanding conflict between Ukraine and Russia.
The minister noted that the Russia-Ukraine war is in its fifth year and that India has consistently maintained that this is not an era of war and that solutions will not emerge from the battlefield.
He also raised the issue of the safety of Indian seafarers amid attacks on commercial shipping. “Indian seafarers man ships of many flags and have been among the unfortunate casualties. The impact on shipping is also significantly affecting many nations of the Global South in a variety of ways, leading to fuel, fertiliser, and food shortages,” he told reporters.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the visit is focused on enhancing bilateral relations and provides an opportunity for the two sides to exchange views on regional developments and issues of mutual interest.
