Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said he does not consider the current circumstances suitable for launching a pre-emptive military strike against Iran, with Israel’s elections approaching
on October 27. He said security considerations must take priority when deciding whether to take such a step.
Speaking to Israel Army Radio on Wednesday, Netanyahu said, “In my opinion, now is not a convenient time for us. Throughout my life, I have always placed security considerations above everything else.”
His remarks come amid reports of discussions over possible military action against Tehran and ahead of elections in Israel and the United States.
Netanyahu’s Remarks And Election Timing
During the interview, Netanyahu discussed the possibility of direct military action against Iran and indicated that he did not favour a pre-emptive strike under the present circumstances.
The comments come as Israel prepares to hold elections on October 27. They also follow media reports about Netanyahu’s discussions with US President Donald Trump over Iran.
A report by Israel’s Channel 12 claimed that Netanyahu had directly pressed Trump to increase military mobilisation and escalate pressure on Iran. The latest remarks come amid these reports, placing the question of possible military action in focus ahead of the Israeli vote.
US Position On Iran
Attention has also turned to Washington, where Trump has said he is prepared to make a decisive decision on the Iran issue in the near future.
Political and regional observers are awaiting the US administration’s position as questions over possible military action intersect with electoral calculations in both countries.
The United States is due to hold its midterm congressional elections in November, adding another political factor to the wider regional situation.
The developments highlight the competing considerations facing decision-makers as they assess the possibility of military escalation. Netanyahu’s comments indicate that he does not consider a pre-emptive strike appropriate at this stage, citing security priorities.
With elections approaching in both Israel and the United States, the possibility of military action against Iran remains a subject of close attention.
