Rishab Shetty’s Kantara Chapter 1 has done what few films manage — turn a rooted mythological story into a nationwide phenomenon. The film, starring Rishab and Rukmini Vasanth, has crossed the Rs 500 crore
mark at the Indian box office, showing no signs of slowing down even after two full weeks in theatres.
Kantara’s Epic Box Office Run Continues
According to trade tracker Sacnilk, Kantara Chapter 1 collected Rs 8.85 crore on day 15, followed by Rs 8.5 crore on day 16 and Rs 7.24 crore on its third Saturday. With this, the film’s India net total now stands at Rs 500.99 crore.
The steady hold and repeat audience turnout prove that Kantara’s impact runs deeper than numbers.
Diwali Boost Ahead, But New Rival Awaits
With Diwali around the corner, Kantara Chapter 1 is expected to see a small jump in collections as families head back to cinemas. But the film will soon face a new challenge — Maddock Films’ Thamma, releasing on October 21, which could test its box office hold in the Hindi belt.
Amitabh Bachchan’s Shoutout to Rishab Shetty
Rishab Shetty recently appeared on Kaun Banega Crorepati 17, where host Amitabh Bachchan praised him for his powerful direction and performance.
“Firstly, I must apologise for not having seen your films yet, you know how our schedules are. But my daughter Shweta went to see Kantara, and she couldn’t sleep for a few days. She was blown away by your performance, especially the last scene. She kept asking how you got into that zone,” Big B said during the episode.
A Mythical Tale With Heart and Power
Written and directed by Rishab Shetty, and produced by Vijay Kiragandur and Chaluve Gowda under Hombale Films, Kantara Chapter 1 serves as a prequel to the 2022 hit Kantara: A Legend. Also starring Rukmini Vasanth, Jayaram, and Gulshan Devaiah, the film follows Berme – a fierce protector of the land – and explores how faith and nature rise against greed and power. Audiences and critics alike have praised its visuals, storytelling, and emotional pull, making it one of India’s biggest hits this year.
