Thalapathy Vijay’s Jana Nayagan is shaping up to be more than just another big-ticket release. Directed by H Vinoth, the political action drama has fans excited especially because it marks Vijay’s final
film before he steps fully into politics. With just weeks to go before release, a fresh update has sparked major buzz and it is regarding the run time of the film.
According to reports, Jana Nayagan is expected to clock in at 3 hours and 6 minutes, making it one of the longest films of Vijay’s career. If the reports turn out to be true, the film will be just a couple of minutes shorter than Nanban (3 hours 8 minutes), which still remains his longest outing.
The highlight? The final portions of Vijay’s upcoming film will reportedly serve as a tribute to his cinematic journey.
But that’s not the only reason the film is in the headline for. Jana Nayagan has already rewritten records even before hitting theatres. The Tamil Nadu theatrical rights have reportedly been sold for a massive Rs 105 crore, the highest ever for a Tamil film in the region.
On a global scale, the film’s business is expected to soar even higher. Reports suggest that Jana Nayagan could achieve a worldwide business of around Rs 400 crore, making it one of the biggest Tamil releases of all time. With such numbers already attached to the project, expectations are understandably sky-high.
Jana Nayagan’s Star Cast
Directed by H Vinoth, known for blending strong political themes with gripping narratives, Jana Nayagan is touted to be a political thriller. The film stars Pooja Hegde, Mamitha Baiju, Prakash Raj and Gautham Menon in key roles alongside Vijay. There are also rumours that the film may be a Tamil remake of Nandamuri Balakrishna’s Bhagavanth Kesari, though the makers have not officially confirmed this.
Jana Nayagan Faces Box Office Clash
Adding to the excitement is the film’s major box-office clash. Jana Nayagan will face stiff competition from several Tamil and Telugu releases, including Parasakthi, Mana Shankara Varaprasad Garu, The Raja Saab, Anaganaga Oka Raju, Nari Nari Naduma Murari and BMW.
Jana Nayagan is set to release on January 9, 2026, during the Pongal holidays and fans are eagerly waiting to watch Vijay on the big screen one last time.
