The Mumbai Traffic Police have announced special traffic restrictions across parts of central Mumbai from 11 am on Monday until midnight on Tuesday. The measures have been put in place in view of the large
number of followers of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar expected to visit Chaityabhoomi to mark his 135th birth anniversary.
Authorities anticipate significant footfall in the Dadar-Shivaji Park area, prompting diversions and movement controls to ensure smooth crowd management and public safety.
One-Way Routes And Road Closures
According to a report in The Times Of India, several key roads in the area will either operate as one-way stretches or remain completely closed to vehicular traffic during the restriction period:
- SK Bole Road will function as a one-way route from Siddhivinayak Temple Junction up to Portuguese Church.
- SVS Road, between Siddhivinayak Temple Junction and Yes Bank Junction, will be closed to all vehicles. However, local residents will be permitted access via Road No 5.
- Ranade Road will remain shut for all types of traffic.
- Dnyaneshwar Mandir Road will be closed from its junction with SVS Road up to Dadar Chowpatty.
These closures are expected to impact regular traffic flow in the Dadar and surrounding areas, and commuters are advised to plan alternate routes accordingly.
Diversion Of Heavy Vehicles
To reduce congestion and facilitate smoother movement near Chaityabhoomi, all heavy and goods vehicles, including tempos, will be diverted.
Such vehicles, with the exception of BEST buses, will be rerouted from Mahim Junction via LJ Road. This diversion aims to minimise traffic build-up in high-density zones where pedestrian movement is expected to peak.
No-Parking Zones Declared
Strict no-parking regulations will be enforced along several arterial roads to prevent obstructions and ensure emergency access if required. The following stretches have been designated as no-parking zones:
- Veer Savarkar Marg, from Century Junction to Yes Bank Junction
- Ranade Road
- Keluskar Road (South) and Keluskar Road (North)
- Dnyaneshwar Mandir Road
Vehicles found parked in these areas may be towed or penalised as per traffic regulations.
Designated Parking Areas
To accommodate visitors, the traffic police have identified specific locations where parking will be permitted:
- Senapati Bapat Marg (for vehicles arriving from Mahim and Dadar)
- India Bulls Finance Center PPL, Elphinstone
- Kohinoor Square PPL, Kohinoor Mill Compound, Shivaji Park
- Kamgar Stadium, Senapati Bapat Marg
- India Bulls Center PPL, Jupiter Mill Compound, Elphinstone
- Five Gardens
Motorists are encouraged to use these designated spaces to avoid inconvenience and ensure smoother traffic circulation in the vicinity.
Advisory For Commuters
Given the scale of the gathering, commuters travelling through central Mumbai during this period are advised to remain cautious, follow official traffic updates, and allow extra travel time.
Authorities have urged the public to cooperate with traffic personnel and adhere to the restrictions for a hassle-free observance of the occasion.
