The legal battle between Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie over their former French winery, Château Miraval, continues to escalate. In newly filed court documents, Pitt has stated he is seeking $35 million
in damages related to Jolie’s 2021 sale of her stake in the vineyard to Stoli Group’s wine division, Tenute del Mondo, a move he claims violated their prior agreement as co-owners.
According to the filings submitted on October 29, Pitt’s legal team included email exchanges from 2023 between the ex-couple’s lawyers. One of the exhibits is a November 2023 email in which Jolie’s attorneys directly reference the substantial damages Pitt is pursuing.
“The burdensome nature of any production is a matter of Mr. Pitt’s own creation, he is suing Ms. Jolie for $35 million in damages,” Jolie’s legal representatives wrote. “As a result, he has to incur the expense of producing the documents that will show (or not show) those damages.”
Dispute Over NDAs and Alleged Misconduct
Another email from October 2023 reveals Jolie’s team arguing that Pitt has sought “ongoing damages for alleged harm to Miraval’s ongoing operations.” They also criticized what they described as Pitt’s refusal to share documents regarding the necessity of a four-year nondisclosure agreement related to his alleged “personal misconduct.”
According to Jolie’s attorneys, those records are central “to the heart of our case and must be produced.”
Pitt’s side has previously stated that after selling her shares, Jolie’s lawyer proposed an even broader mutual non-disparagement clause connected to their divorce.
The Once Upon a Time in Hollywood actor first filed suit in 2022, claiming Jolie sold her share without his consent, which he alleges violated their mutual understanding. Jolie, however, has denied such an agreement existed, accusing Pitt of attempting to “force her silence” regarding alleged past abuse.
These allegations refer to a 2016 private jet incident, during which Jolie claims Pitt was verbally and physically aggressive. Pitt was investigated but not charged, and Jolie did not pursue criminal action.
