Firefighters and emergency teams rushed to the spot, battling the blaze and trying to bring it under control.

BJP MLA Michael Lobo said he was deeply disturbed by the tragedy. He confirmed that the victims included three women and 20 men, some tourists, but mostly local staff working in the basement. He stressed the urgent need for safety audits across all clubs and restaurants in Goa to prevent such incidents. “Most people died due to suffocation as they ran towards the basement,” he said.

A local resident who heard the explosion described the chaos that followed, with ambulances rushing in as the fire raged. “When I was heading home, I heard an explosion. Later, we saw ambulances arriving at the spot. When we reached the location, we saw that the incident had already occurred,” said a local.
