Arranged marriages have never been simple. Things can get utterly confusing with numerous profiles, first calls, family discussions and follow-up conversations. But recently, a Pune man’s surprisingly
organised approach to arranged marriage has caught the Internet’s attention, and it involves something many working professionals know all too well: an Excel sheet.
Instead of juggling multiple conversations mentally or scrolling endlessly through chats, this man decided to bring structure into the chaos.
The man in question is Vikas, a 28-year-old data analyst originally from Haryana. His parents suggested he look for a bride through matrimonials, so he began speaking to several prospective matches. But keeping track of conversations, feedback and progress became difficult. So, he decided to build a detailed tracker to manage the entire process.
Pune Man Creates Excel Sheet To Track Arranged Marriage Matches
Vikas shared a video on Instagram that shows viewers the Excel sheet he created to track his arranged marriage journey. In the video, he explains, “Arrange marriage ke setup mein track karne ke liye, maine ek excel sheet ka use kiya (To track things in an arranged marriage setup, I used an Excel sheet.)”
The spreadsheet includes multiple columns. One column lists the names of all the women he has spoken to for arranged marriage. Other columns are dedicated to details from the first call and second call, followed by a section titled “Talking stage started.”
There are also separate columns for “Your feedback from parents” and “Her feedback to parents.” To make things even clearer, Vikas added columns labelled “Current status” and “Notes.”
Explaining why this system works for him, he says, “Ye main chiz hai dekho – Current status kya hai. Abhi bhi bat hori hai, nahi hori hai ya final stage mein hai ya on hold par hai. Uske liye maine colours bhi use kiye hai. Aur jo meri favourite chize hai, unke notes banaye hai. Toh bhai aise tum maintain karo, tabhi tum logo ko samajh ayega ki chal kya raha hai warna track hi nhi rakh paoge. (This is the main thing — what the current status is. Whether the conversation is still going on, has stopped, is at the final stage, or is on hold. I’ve also used colours for that. And I’ve made notes about the things I personally like. So, maintain it like this, only then will you understand what’s actually going on, you won’t be able to keep track at all.)”
Vikas wraps up the video by encouraging others to try the method for themselves. “Try karke dekho, ye kaam kar raha hai bhai ek dum (Try it and see, this works perfectly),” he says.
The overlay text on the video reads: “Arranged marriage system but I’m running it like a full system,” while the caption said, “When life gives you arranged marriage, build a tracker. Weekend tracker.”
