For India’s 80th Independence Day celebrations at the Red Fort, the government has invited approximately 5,000 special guests from diverse sectors and grassroots backgrounds. This initiative aligns with
the official vision of Jan Bhagidari (public participation) to honor ordinary citizens who contribute to national development and key government initiatives. Who all were picked?
THE GUEST LIST
The special guest list features individuals representing wide-ranging social strata, vocational programs, and public welfare schemes, including:
Youth and Innovators: High-performing My Bharat volunteers, top interns from the Prime Minister’s Internship Scheme, quiz-winning students, and young innovators linked to national programs.
Workers and Artisans: Urban sanitation workers under the Swachh Bharat Mission, street vendors under PM SVANidhi, and traditional tradespeople including 100 PM Vishwakarma beneficiaries representing traditional crafts like carpentry, tailoring, and goldsmithing.
Entrepreneurs and Beneficiaries: Women entrepreneurs under the PM Mudra Yojana, beneficiaries of PMAY (Urban), International Yoga Day volunteers, and participants of schemes like NAMASTE, PM-AJAY, and SEED.
Traditional Representation: Over 1,500 people from various States and Union Territories attending in their local traditional attire.

To shift the focus away from traditional political VIP culture and center the celebrations on citizens driving growth at the ground level.

Acknowledging Public Schemes: To honor the direct beneficiaries and frontline executors of transformative social, economic, and cleanliness initiatives rolled out by the government.
2026 INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATIONS
India celebrates its 80th Independence Day on August 15, 2026 , marking 79 years of freedom from British rule . The national event features Prime Minister Narendra Modi hoisting the tricolor flag and addressing the nation from the historic Red Fort in New Delhi under the themes “150 Years of Vande Mataram” and “Yuva Shakti for Viksit Bharat@2047”.
It will focused on honouring150 years of Vande Mataram and empowering youth power (Yuva Shakti) for a developed India by 2047. Atmanirbhar Display will showcase entirely indigenous military equipment and technologies at the Red Fort ceremony.
In digital outreach, there will be real-time AI translation of the Prime Minister’s speech across 22 regional Indian languages via digital tools like Bhashini.
There will be nationwide flag hoisting across schools, institutions, and residential neighborhoods alongside cultural programs like Bharat Parva.
