A verbal duel broke out between Bihar deputy chief minister Vijay Kumar Sinha and his RJD opponent Ajay Kumar from Lakhisarai during the first phase of the Bihar assembly election on Thursday.

by PTI, Vijay Kumar Sinha and Ajay Kumar can be seen throwing accusations at each other in the middle of the road, surrounded by their security personnel and aides while media persons got a firsthand experience of the spectacle.

Sinha, who is the BJP candidate from Lakhisarai, is seen standing with his guards in front of Ajay Kumar’s car, who seems to have stepped out of the vehicle to have a word with his electoral rival. But the two soon get into a heated argument.
Ajay Kumar accused Sinha of being a “criminal” and alleged that he was trying to intimidate voters in Lakhisarai, while Sinha hit back calling him a “failed leader” and “drunk”.
Earlier in the day, chaos broke out in Lakhisarai, where a mob allegedly hurled slippers and stones at Sinha’s convoy while blocking his vehicle amid chants of ‘murdabad’.
“We were on the road, and he parked his car in front of us, so we stopped. He’s an RJD MLC (Ajay Kumar Singh). He was drunk, reeking of alcohol and talking nonsense. He had gone to Nadiawan to capture a booth. When he heard we were on our way, he ran…” Sinha alleged.

Towards the end of the video, as Sinha is accusing him of being inebriated, Ajay Kumar is heard saying the word “mahua” to which the deputy CM said: “Doesn’t matter if it’s ‘mahua’ or alcohol, both are the same…”
It is, however, not clear from the video whether Ajay Kumar admits to have consumed ‘mahua’, a local tree whose flowers are fermented to make an alcoholic beverage.
“…his people stopped our car and resorted to hooliganism. He is distraught because he has lost the election. Vijay Sinha’s chapter is closed. He was not attacked. He had been trying to stage this drama for several days…” Ajay Kumar later said while reacting to allegations by Sinha that his convoy was attacked.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has called for strict action against the alleged attack on Sinha. Chief election commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar directed the Bihar director general of police (DGP) to take immediate action after supporters of the RJD allegedly surrounded Sinha’s convoy in Khoriari village, hurling stones and cow dung while chanting ‘murdabad’.
The incident took place when voting was underway for 121 seats in the first phase of assembly election amid tight security arrangements.
