Taylor Swift made her debut appearance in boyfriend Travis Kelce’s podcast, New Heights, on Wednesday, and reflected on various personal battles, including her father, Scott Swift’s, intense heart surgery.
During the podcast, the 14-time Grammy winner revealed that this summer her father, who is now 73 years old, underwent a “really intense” quintuple bypass surgery and shared that she temporarily moved in with him as he recovered from the surgery.
Taylor Swift Talks about Her Father Scott Swift’s Heart Surgery
During the chat Taylor recounted that Scott’s health deteriorated quickly. She revealed that Scott had a “perfect EKG” every time he went to the doctor for annual physicals. However, after he underwent a cardiac stress test, the doctors found five blockages in his heart. “So, it all happened really quick,” she stated. “So, he’s been telling all his friends, ‘You need to get the stress test because that’s what’s actually preventative.’ If you can find that earlier, you don’t have to have bypass surgery,” Taylor said. “You can sort out those blockages with stents and things that are a lot less invasive.”
Taylor further revealed that Scott insisted she did not have to come due to her work, but the All Too Well singer immediately met up with her family at the hospital and revealed she, her brother, and her mother each took shifts in the ICU and stayed with him 24/7. The singer then went on to detail the moment when Scott woke up from surgery. “He wakes up from surgery, and it’s my mom, my brother, me, and his best friend. He did like a comedy act, a comedy set for 15 minutes. He was the funniest he’s ever been, and he’s usually really funny,” Swift said.
Taylor Swift Details Her Father’s Recovery Journey
When Scott was discharged, Taylor moved in with him as he recovered over the summer. “I’m like, this dude built playsets and swing sets and cribs for me. I’m building his shower chair and his walker and his bed that goes like this,” she said, gesturing to an accessible bed for her father’s recovery journey. Taylor further detailed how appreciative her father was during the whole recovery process. “He was like the loveliest patient ever. He just kept saying thank you over and over again,” Taylor recalled. Travis Kelce replied that Scott is “full of life” and “appreciative that doctors caught it.”
