US President Donald Trump announced that he would give a televised address to the nation on Wednesday, adding that it had been a “great year” for the United States since his return to power in January.
“My Fellow Americans: I will be giving an ADDRESS TO THE NATION tomorrow night, LIVE FROM THE WHITE HOUSE, at 9 P.M. EST. I look forward to ‘seeing’ you then. It has been a great year for our Country, and THE BEST IS YET TO COME!” he said in a post on Truth Social.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt teased Trump’s upcoming address to reporters on Tuesday, saying he will talk about the “historic accomplishments” notched by his administration over the past year and what’s expected to come next, ABC News reported.
“It’s going to be a really good speech. I was just in the Oval Office with the president discussing it. He’s going to talk a lot about the accomplishments over the past 11 months, all that he’s done to bring our country back to greatness and all he continues to plan to do to continue delivering for the American people over the next three years,” she said.
Leavitt told Fox News that Trump will likely talk about issues related to US border security and economic issues. “The best is truly yet to come, as he often says,” she said, adding that he could be “teasing some policy that will be coming” within the next year.

The address comes as Trump’s job approval rating has been on a decline since he took office in January. In the latest NBC News poll released on December 14, Trump’s approval rating dropped to 42%, marking a 3-point drop since April. An AP-NORC poll last week found 31% of Americans approve of Trump’s handling of the economy, down from 40% in March.
He also faces criticism from within his Make America Great Again (MAGA) movement for focusing on peace deals in Ukraine and Gaza and on tensions with Venezuela instead of domestic issues. There are now signs that his team have started to realise the issue could hurt Republicans in next year’s midterm elections for the control of Congress.
Trump has delivered two sit-down addresses from the Oval Office since his return to power. The first address took place on September 9, where he spoke about his administration’s efforts to promote “law and order” in the wake of the stabbing of a Ukrainian immigrant, Iryna Zarutska, according to The Independent. The second address was a day later, after the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
