Rakul Preet Singh is currently busy promoting her upcoming film, Pati Patni Aur Woh Do, with her co-stars Ayushmann Khurrana, Sara Ali Khan, and Wamiqa Gabbi. Helmed by Mudassar Aziz, the film will hit
theatres on May 15. Recently, Rakul made headlines after her husband and producer, Jackky Bhagnani, termed their marriage as a “situationship.” The comment instantly went viral on the internet for all the wrong reasons. In a new interview, the actress has now reacted to social media chatter around their relationship and marriage.
During her interaction with India Today, Rakul Preet Singh clarified that the remark was originally intended as a light-hearted exchange between her and her husband. However, things quickly escalated after snippets from the interview surfaced on social media and were taken out of context. She said, “Obviously, we were laughing about it. Then it started getting a little too much, and became a little personal. I felt that people don’t know us. People don’t know [about] our life. It was also taken out of context… it was just that word and that line (which became headlines). Not the question and not the lines before that.”
The actress went on to add, “Also, because I am sitting in that interview. It’s not like my husband has gone and said that somewhere else. We were talking about relationships. Then we felt, let’s just joke about it. It’s okay, mistakes do happen, it’s not a big deal.”
The entire row started after a clip of Jackky started surfacing on social media. In the viral video, he was heard saying, “Rakul and I are married, but we are like in a situationship. Of course, we are exclusive to each other because that’s why we are married. But the most important thing is that I can talk to her about anything.” In no time, the clip grabbed widespread attention online, with several users misinterpreting his statement and speculating about trouble in his marriage with Rakul.
Speaking further about relationships and marriage, Rakul also shared her perspective on how the institution of marriage is evolving in today’s times. While acknowledging that marriage may no longer hold the same significance for some people, the actress emphasized that no one should feel pressured to settle down at a particular age.
Meanwhile, Rakul Preet Singh and Jackky Bhagnani were in a relationship for nearly three years before tying the knot on February 21, 2024, in an intimate wedding ceremony held in Goa.
