Activist Sonam Wangchuk ended his indefinite hunger strike shortly after midnight on Thursday, with Union Ministers JP Nadda and Jitendra Singh present as he broke his fast at Medanta Hospital in Gurugram,
Haryana.
Nadda and Singh visited Wangchuk at the hospital. Wangchuk’s wife, Gitanjali, was also present.

Wangchuk had been on an indefinite hunger strike since June 28 after joining the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP)-led protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar over the NEET paper leak. He began the fast in solidarity with students demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and wider reforms in the education system.
Wangchuk became one of the most prominent faces of the youth-led movement. His participation drew widespread public attention to the protests, which have continued for weeks.
On July 18, Wangchuk was removed from the protest site at Jantar Mantar and taken to Safdarjung Hospital. He was later shifted to Medanta Hospital in Gurugram, where he continued his hunger strike until Thursday night.
