The cab driver who held a family “hostage” during their ride in Noida has now been arrested, reported PTI, citing officials on Saturday. The Noida Police stated that they have found two Aadhaar cards from
the accused, one in the name of ‘Nasim’ and another in the name of ‘Sonu’.
Meanwhile, the incident dates back to Thursday afternoon, when one Sanjay Mohan booked a cab for Delhi’s Connaught Place from his home in Greater Noida.
Mohan, along with his wife and four-year-old daughter, had just begun their cab ride when the situation took a terrifying turn. As the vehicle approached Parthala Bridge in Noida, the police signalled the driver to pull over. Instead of complying, the driver accelerated abruptly, breaking through barricades, according to police reports.
Shocked and alarmed by the sudden move, the couple pleaded with the driver to stop and let them out. But their requests were ignored as he continued to drive recklessly for several kilometres, attempting to evade a PCR van in pursuit, officials said.
The couple kept pleading, but the driver refused to stop. After managing to outrun the police, he briefly halted the vehicle for just a few seconds at TP Nagar. The moment the family stepped out, he sped away, police said.
The entire incident was caught on camera by the police, and it later went viral on social media platforms, prompting action from authorities.
The police have filed a case d under BNS sections 137 (2) (kidnapping), 127 (2) (wrongful confinement), 281 (rash driving), 319 (cheating by personation, 318 (4) (cheating), 336 (2) (forgery), 338 (forgery of valuable security) and others at Phase 3 Police Station.
