Author and philanthropist Sudha Murty has warned the public against deepfake videos circulating on social media platforms that misuse her identity to promote fraudulent financial schemes.
In a video message
shared on X, Murty cautioned users about fake content created using artificial intelligence that falsely shows her endorsing investment opportunities. “I want to alert you to fake videos circulating online that falsely use my image and voice to promote financial schemes and investments. These are deepfakes created without my knowledge or consent,” she said.

She explained that several such videos are being widely shared, particularly on Facebook, where she appears to suggest investing “200 dollars or 20,000 rupees” with promises of returns that are sometimes “ten times more”. Murty stressed that these claims are completely false and said people known to her have already lost money after falling for such scams.
“I never talk about financial investments or do anything with money. I talk about work, I talk about India’s culture, I talk about women and education,” she said, distancing herself from any form of investment advice or monetary promises.
Urging people to exercise caution, Murty added, “Please do not make any financial decisions based on these fraudulent videos. I urge you to verify information through official channels and report any such content you encounter. Stay vigilant and stay safe. Jai Hind!”
