Vijay oath-taking ceremony: Actor-turned-politician and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) founder C Joseph Vijay was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on Sunday, ushering in a major political shift
in the state.
His victory marks the first time in nearly seven decades that a party other than the DMK or AIADMK has formed the government in the southern state. Vijay has become the ninth Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.
The swearing-in ceremony took place at Chennai’s Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium at 10.15 am, with nine TVK leaders also takingoath as ministers apart from the party chief. Thousands of supporters packed the venue, turning the stadium into a celebration ground as chants and cheers filled the air.

Which Parties Are Supporting TVK?
TVK emerged as the single-largest party in the 234-member Assembly with 108 seats. The party later secured the backing of Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) and Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), pushing its strength to 120 and comfortably crossing the majority mark. After obtaining letters of support from Congress, CPI, CPI(M), VCK and IUML, Vijay met Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, who formally invited him to form the government. Follow for live updates
Rahul Gandhi, Trisha Attend Oath-Taking Event
The ceremony drew several prominent political and film personalities. Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi also arrived in Chennai to attend the event, underlining the national attention surrounding the transition. Actor Trisha was also present among members of the film fraternity.
Supporters described the result as a major political breakthrough. “We are very happy because of Thalapathy,” one supporter said outside the venue. TVK MLA V Pandi said the new administration would focus on women’s welfare and employment opportunities for youth, while promising a “clean and pure government” free of corruption.
Emotions also ran high at the home of Vijay’s father, filmmaker S A Chandrasekhar. Vijay’s mother, Shoba Chandrasekhar, expressed confidence in her son, saying, “Vijay will lead this well; I have full faith in him”.
With his swearing-in, Vijay also became the first actor in Tamil Nadu’s history to secure a majority mandate and become Chief Minister in his electoral debut.
