Following the NEET UG re-exam on Sunday, a major case came to light during the re-NEET examination in Bihar’s Lakhisarai district, leaving security agencies surprised. During the exam, authorities caught
nine individuals across three examination centres who were allegedly appearing on behalf of the actual candidates. Preliminary investigations revealed that these people were fake candidates placed in the exam centers as substitutes for other students.
The examination was held at four centers in the district — Kendriya Vidyalaya, Hasanpur High School, KRK High School, and DIET Lakhisarai. During verification, seven fake candidates were caught from Kendriya Vidyalaya, one from Hasanpur High School, and one from KRK School. Authorities became suspicious after finding mismatches in documents, photographs, and fingerprints. A detailed investigation was launched, exposing the larger network. So far, 30 people, including five medical students, have reportedly been arrested in connection with the case.
Deals Worth Up To Rs 40 Lakh Uncovered
The investigation revealed that several candidates had allegedly made financial arrangements with solvers. In some cases, deals of up to Rs 40 lakh were made to ensure success in the examination, reported News18 Hindi. Police are now investigating which candidates paid for these services and identifying all individuals involved in the network. Officials are treating the case not as an isolated cheating incident, but as a possible organised examination fraud operation.
Questions Raised Over Biometric Verification Process
One of the most concerning aspects of the case was related to the biometric verification system. Authorities detained seven employees of the private agency responsible for recording biometric attendance during the exam. As the investigation progressed, the role of other agency personnel also came under scrutiny.
Investigators found that some fake candidates allegedly entered examination centres without completing the biometric verification process. This raised questions over whether the incident was caused by negligence or whether there was possible involvement of insiders.
Considering the seriousness of the matter, senior district officials took direct charge of the investigation. District Magistrate Shailendra Kumar, Superintendent of Police Prerna Kumar, Sub-Divisional Officer Prabhakar Kumar, and Sub-Divisional Police Officer Shivam Kumar visited the examination centers personally. The arrested individuals and detained employees were questioned for several hours. Authorities have assured that strict legal action will be taken against everyone found guilty.
Interstate Solver Network Suspected
Police suspect that the Lakhisarai case may not be limited to Bihar alone. Investigators are examining the possibility of an interstate solver gang being involved. Mobile phones, documents, bank transactions, and digital records of the accused are being analyzed to trace the wider network. Officials believe the operation may have links beyond the state, and the investigation is continuing.
Fake Question Paper Racket Exposed In Muzaffarpur
While the solver network was uncovered in Lakhisarai, another fraud racket emerged in Muzaffarpur, where students were allegedly cheated through fake NEET question papers. The gang reportedly claimed to have access to the original exam paper and used students’ ambitions of securing medical admissions to trap them.
Police found that the accused contacted students through social media platforms and messaging applications, convincing them to pay large sums of money in exchange for the supposed leaked paper.
Currently, the role of the biometric company is under suspicion, and police are interrogating the arrested accused to uncover the main masterminds of this racket and its financial transactions.
