Ranchi, May 21 (PTI) Jharkhand Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) K Ravi Kumar on Thursday said that around 32,000 Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will conduct door-to-door visits from June 30 to complete the Special
Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in the state.
He said the exercise is going to be conducted with the objective of ensuring that no eligible Indian citizen is left out of the voter list.
“The SIR exercise will commence on June 20, but voter enumeration will be held from June 30 to July 29. During this period, the 32,000 appointed BLOs will visit door-to-door, provide enumeration forms to voters, and conduct verification. Those whose names are on the voter list will map their details with the previous SIR conducted in 2003,” Kumar said.
“From June 20 to 29, training and preparatory work for BLOs will be held so that not a single eligible Indian citizen will be left out of the voter list. We will reach every voter,” the CEO said.
He said that the draft electoral rolls will be published on August 5, while claims and objections can be filed between August 5 and September 4. New voters can submit Form-6 application from June 30.
“Applications for new voters, claims, and objections will also be collected by the BLOs through door-to-door visits, and special camps will also be organised for those voters who cannot be contacted by them,” the CEO said.
The names of all eligible voters will be published in the draft rolls, whether their names matched the last mapping or not. After this, if logical discrepancies are found, notices will be sent to dispose of the application, Kumar said.
The SIR exercise is only being conducted for Indian Citizens. No foreign citizen, even if they are in Jharkhand, will participate in it. Every Indian citizen who is 18 years of age and residing in Jharkhand will definitely have their name included, he said.
Approximately 50,000 personnel have been appointed to complete the entire exercise in the state. This number includes 24 District Election Officers (DEOs), 81 Electoral Registration Officers (EROs), 340 Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs), an additional 80 AEROs, 32,000 BLOs, and 4,000 BLO supervisors.
In response to a question regarding document submission by voters, he said that those whose mapping was completed in 2003 and who have no logical discrepancy will not need to submit any separate documents.
“Those whose names were not present in 2003 and who have logical discrepancies will have to submit any one of the 11 documents specified by the Election Commission,” he added.
People born before 1 July 1987 will need to submit only one document (of their own). Whereas, those who were born between 1 July 1987 and 2 December 2004 will have to submit their own document along with their parents’ document. PTI RPS RPS RG
