Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said India’s reform express will move forward at an even faster pace.
Speaking at Global Fintech Fest (GFF) 2026 in Mumbai, the Prime Minister said India’s fintech
story has been remarkable, and one of its biggest champions is the UPI.
“I will reiterate that India’s reform express will move forward at an even faster pace. Friends, India’s fintech story has been remarkable, and one of its biggest champions is our UPI. I spoke about it last year as well. But this transformation is so significant that whenever we talk about fintech, the discussion would remain incomplete without UPI,” he said.
The Prime Minister said India’s economy grew 7.8 per cent in the first quarter despite the West Asia conflict, which put energy and commodity supply chains under pressure.
“Even in these circumstances, when India grows at 7.8 per cent, it gives the world a new sense of confidence. I can clearly see this growing confidence on all your faces as well. Another example of this growing confidence in India is our sovereign ratings. Recently, a Japanese credit rating agency upgraded India’s sovereign rating to the A category. It is certainly a matter of happiness that the rating has been upgraded,” he said.
