After Cockroach Janta Party, India’s internet has a new satirical entrant in the Makkhi Janta Party (MJP), an online movement whose name, fly emoji and messaging appear to riff on the viral CJP. Its Instagram
account, @makkhijantaparty, describes itself as a political front “of the youth, by the youth, for the youth” and says that its campaign is geared saving democracy.
The latest buzz comes with a website, makkhijantaparty.mjp, and a message that has emerged in the wake of a reported remark by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant during proceedings linked to the CJP protests and restrictions imposed in Delhi. A three-judge bench led by CJI advised the Centre and Delhi Police not to follow “use a hammer to kill a fly” principle during the protests.
MJP has turned that imagery into a political identity. In a recent post, it asks whether citizens in a democracy should be called cockroaches one day and flies the next. The account also says it is not opposed to any political party and is not affiliated with one. Instead, it presents itself as a platform for public dignity and citizens’ rights. Whether it remains a meme-driven phenomenon or develops into a more organised digital campaign is another question.
What Is The Makkhi Janta Party Website About?
Alongside the movement’s messaging on democracy and public respect, its purported manifesto makes a pitch for capitalism, entrepreneurship, job creation and economic growth. It argues that India needs people to build businesses, create employment, develop practical skills and help local enterprises grow. It also criticises what it describes as CJP’s grievance-driven protest politics, asking where the equally vocal plans for investment, productivity and livelihoods are.
The website reads: “Cockroach Ji supplies the grievance. Makkhi Madam supplies the buzz. India’s builders supply the actual work.”
As per the website, MJP has a different voice from the protest-oriented identity associated with CJP. While CJP has focussed on accountability through demonstrations, the new website says it is focussed on economic participation and building businesses.
How Did The Cockroach Janta Party Enter The Picture?
The MJP phenomenon piggybacks on the history of Cockroach Janta Party, which began as political satire and became more visible through its protest campaigns. CJP’s public profile grew around its criticism of government and institutional decisions, with its name becoming a recognisable part of its online identity.
In October 2026, CJP called for demonstrations demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, amid allegations surrounding revisions to electoral rolls. The planned October 10 protest prompted major security measures in Delhi. Authorities restricted access to several Metro stations, issued traffic advisories and deployed security personnel. The disruption became part of the larger argument over public protest, access to the capital and the proportionality of restrictions. The Supreme Court’s reported hammer-and-fly remark during this protest is what led to MJP.
