India Test and ODI captain Shubman Gill has received an invitation to watch the ongoing Wimbledon 2026 Championships from the prestigious Royal Box. With the invitation, Gill becomes only the fourth Indian
captain to receive the coveted honour, joining Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.
The Royal Box, one of the most exclusive viewing areas at Wimbledon, regularly hosts distinguished guests from the worlds of sport, entertainment, politics and public life.
Gill is currently in England with the Indian cricket team for an upcoming three-match ODI series.
During the tour, the 26-year-old has also found time to witness another major global sporting spectacle after attending the British Grand Prix at the Silverstone Circuit earlier this week.
The Indian skipper experienced his first-ever Formula 1 race as a VIP guest during the British GP, getting an up-close look at one of motorsport’s biggest annual events.
As part of his visit, Gill explored the paddock, interacted with members of the Formula 1 community and soaked in the electric atmosphere that surrounds the race weekend. His visit also gave him exclusive access to areas usually reserved for teams, drivers and invited guests, allowing him to experience Formula 1 from behind the scenes.
After the conclusion of India’s T20I leg of the England tour, attention will turn to the 50-over format with captain Gill set to return to action having last playing during the three-match ODI series against Afghanistan at home which the hosts won 3-0.
He was in terrific form during the bilateral series hitting an unbeaten 84 in the opening clash before racking up a mammoth 154 in the second game. The opener then demoted himself in the batting order for the third and final contest that India won by 9 wickets.
India face England in the fifth and final T20I at Southampton on Saturday before the start of the three-match ODI series.
