The Indian women’s cricket team recently underwent a match simulation training in Vishakhapatnam during their ODI World Cup preparation camp in Vishakhapatnam, with exactly a month left for the showpiece
event to begin, which will be hosted by India and Sri Lanka.
Indian women’s head coach Amol Muzumdar, eyeing a maiden ODI World Cup crown, stressed the importance of ‘quality batting time in the middle’ during the ongoing preparatory camp.
Once the preparatory camp wraps up, India will face Australia in a three-match ODI series ahead of the World Cup, scheduled from September 30 to November 2.
“What we want to really get is a good batting time in the middle. Just talking about the bowlers, I think the field settings are very crucial. We will be working on that in the match,” Muzumdar said while speaking to BCCI.

Since August 25, India’s players, under skipper Harmanpreet Kaur, have been part of a specialised skill-focused camp in Vishakhapatnam.
As Harmanpreet, her deputy Smriti Mandhana and others went through their drills, Muzumdar was heard in the video saying, “all of us have our own way to find rhythm. Visualise yourself getting into that flow.”
Holding the camp in Vishakhapatnam is a strategic call, with India all set to play two key World Cup games there, against South Africa on October 9 and Australia on Sunday, October 12.
The camp features all World Cup team members, along with the reserves and the India A cricketers picked for the warm-up games.
India are yet to win a Women’s World Cup, with runner-up finishes in 2005 and 2017 standing as their best performances in the event till now.
India missed out on the knockouts of the last edition in 2022 by just one point and would look to capitalise on the home factor to bag that elusive title.
