Rail passengers travelling between Chennai and Bengaluru, as well as those using several long-distance routes passing through the corridor, may face widespread disruption over the coming weeks due to yard
remodelling works at Bengaluru Cantonment and Whitefield.
According to a report in DT Next, more than 10 train services on key southern routes will be impacted between May 29 and July 7 through cancellations, rescheduling, diversions and partial curtailments, affecting both daily commuters and long-distance travellers.
The disruptions are linked to infrastructure works aimed at improving rail operations in and around Bengaluru, though they are expected to cause significant inconvenience during the maintenance period.
Key Trains To Be Cancelled On Select Days
Several important services on the Chennai-Bengaluru and Chennai-Mysuru corridors will remain cancelled on selected dates between June 3 and July 7.
Among the trains affected are:
- Chennai Central-Ashokapuram Kaveri Express
- Ashokapuram-Chennai Central return Kaveri Express
- Chennai-Bengaluru Superfast Mail
- Yesvantpur-Chennai Superfast Express
- Mysuru-Chennai Superfast Express
- MEMU services operating between Bengaluru and Jolarpettai
These cancellations are expected to impact passengers travelling for work, business and leisure on one of south India’s busiest rail corridors.
Multiple Trains To Be Rescheduled Between May And July
Apart from cancellations, a number of trains will run behind schedule on specific dates, with delays ranging from 30 minutes to as much as three hours.
Rescheduling has been announced for services on:
- May 29
- June 2
- June 7
- June 19
- June 23
- July 3
Among the trains likely to face revised departure timings are:
- Mysuru-Renigunta Superfast Express
- SMVT Bengaluru-New Tinsukia Express
- Kaveri Express
- Hatia-Bengaluru Express
Passengers travelling on these dates have been advised to check revised timings before departure, as schedules may vary by service and day.
Long-Distance Trains To Be Diverted, Major Junctions To Be Skipped
Several long-distance trains will also be diverted on select dates in June and July, with services operating on alternate routes instead of their usual paths.
As part of these diversions, some major junctions will be bypassed, including:
- Katpadi
- Jolarpettai
- Renigunta
- Arakkonam
- Perambur
Among the trains affected by diversions are:
- Mysuru-Howrah Express
- SMVT Bengaluru-Guwahati Express
- Hatia-Bengaluru Express
- Dadar-Puducherry Express
- Ernakulam-Bengaluru Vande Bharat
The diversions could affect boarding and deboarding plans for passengers using these junctions, particularly those relying on connecting services.
Partial Cancellation For MEMU Service On July 7
In addition to full cancellations and route changes, one suburban service will face a partial cancellation.
The Jolarpettai-KSR Bengaluru MEMU service scheduled for July 7 will operate only up to Devangonthi and will remain partially cancelled beyond that point.
Regular commuters using the service may need to make alternate travel arrangements for the affected stretch.
