Tamil superstar Rajinikanth left everyone surprised on Tuesday when he refused to comment on Vijay becoming the new Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. The ‘Jailer’ actor was spotted by the paparazzi at the Chennai
airport on Tuesday afternoon when he was asked about Vijay’s solid political debut and his becoming the Chief Minister of the state. However, Rajinikanth did not comment on anything. He simply smiled, folded his hands and walked ahead.
The video of Rajinikanth’s reaction has now gone viral on social media and has also sparked a discussion online. While some users are calling it “shocking”, others claim that the superstar might just be in a hurry.
It should also be noted that on May 4, i.e. on the day of Tamil Nadu assembly election results, Rajinikanth took to his X handle to congratulate Vijay for his party, TVK’s outstanding debut in politics. “My congratulations to Thiru Vijay, President of the victorious Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, and to the members of his party, on their resounding victory in the recently concluded Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly elections,” he had written.

Vijay’s First Decision As CM
Vijay, officially known as C. Joseph Vijay, was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on May 10, 2026. The ceremony at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium marked a major political shift in the state. Leading his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), Vijay emerged as the single largest force in the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections with 108 seats.
Meanwhile, Vijay has taken a major decision just days after the ceremony, ordering the closure of over 700 liquor shops near educational institutions and temples in the state and directing officials to execute the order within two weeks. Liquor sales are one of the government’s key revenue generators in the state, yet such a major decision has caught eyeballs, with actors Kamal Haasan and Vishal showing support for Vijay’s move.
